Why EYFS Transition Staff Training is Essential
Transitions are among the most physiologically and emotionally demanding moments in an early years setting, requiring children to repeatedly shift focus, adapt to new environments, and navigate changing expectations. When transitions are rushed, unstructured, or handled through rigid group commands, young children experience elevated stress, anxiety, and heightened behavioural distress. This masterclass equips practitioners with a comprehensive framework to transform daily micro-movements, room moves, and major educational shifts into predictable, reassuring experiences. By embedding small-group routines, visual aids, sensory down-regulation, and multi-agency collaboration, settings create an overarching culture of emotional safety that fosters independence and long-term resilience.

The EYFS Transition Staff Training CPD Course Breakdown
This comprehensive masterclass guides practitioners through a multi-tiered approach to transitions, addressing every scale of change a young child encounters. Module 1 focuses on daily room transitions, exploring the micro-movements that shape every session. Participants learn to replace large-group waiting periods with staggered, small-group transitions, establish predictable drop-off rituals with parents, and execute 15-minute sensory wind-down buffers to ease the transition from energetic play to naptime or rest.
Module 2 addresses mid-level room changes, guiding staff through the developmental shifts from baby to toddler and toddler to preschool rooms. Educators discover how to implement gradual stepping stone visits, adapt room layouts to encourage choice, and build independence in self-care milestones through child-level visual charts. Module 3 redefines school readiness around social-emotional pillars, detailing school familiarisation zones, social-emotional readiness matrices, and structured multi-agency handovers for children with SEND. Finally, Module 4 addresses emotional and home-led transitions, offering targeted strategies to support children through sibling births, house relocations, and setting changes, while teaching teams how to audit their own transition footprint to eliminate unnecessary waiting times.
