EYFS Makaton Staff Training Stage-by-Stage Breakdown & Bespoke Modules
Stage 1: Core Daily Needs & Immediate Relationships
The foundational entry point to Makaton, focusing on immediate survival, primary care, and emotional connection. Practitioners master key signs and symbols for key figures, basic needs (eat, drink, toilet, help), and core emotional states to build immediate communication safety.
Stage 2: Daily Routines & Immediate Environment
Focusing on structured nursery routines and physical surroundings. Covers functional signs for transitions (stop, go, wait, finish), familiar objects, indoor/outdoor play zones, and daily care activities to foster predictability.
Stage 3: Animals, Nature & Descriptive Concepts
Introducing early descriptive vocabulary and high-interest play topics. Staff learn signs and symbols for animals, colours, sizes, and natural elements to enrich story times, sensory exploration, and outdoor learning.
Stage 4: Expressive Concepts, Time & Action Verbs
Developing functional action words, simple time concepts, and high-frequency verbs (look, listen, play, make, put). Equips educators to scaffold play-based learning, support multi-step instructions, and enhance early literacy.

How Our Training Delivery Works
We offer flexible, tailored delivery formats designed to fit around your nursery's shift patterns, staffing ratios, and budget. You can choose to complete your chosen Stage or course using any of the delivery methods below.
Group Sizes & Delivery Modes
On-Site Training (Up to 20 Staff): We come directly to your setting to deliver hands-on, face-to-face training for up to 20 team members per session.
Remote Training (Up to 10 Staff per Session): Interactive live-online sessions capped at 10 participants per session to ensure high engagement, individual feedback, and active practice.
Multi-Group Discounts for Larger Teams: If you have more than 10 staff who require remote training, you can book two or more remote cohorts at a discounted rate. Please note: To maintain training quality, multi-group bookings will run as separate, dedicated sessions.
Flexible Scheduling Options (8 Hours Total Per Stage)
Full-Day Intensive: Complete the full 8-hour stage in a single 1-day workshop.
Two Half-Day Sessions: Split the 8 hours across two 4-hour sessions (ideal for INSET days or weekend blocks).
Weekly Hourly Sessions (Remote Only): Spread the 8 hours over weekly live-online modules—ranging from 1 hour per week over 8 weeks up to 8 hours in a single week—depending entirely on your setting’s availability and preferences.
