EYFS Emotional Regulation & Co-Regulation Masterclass
EYFS Emotional Regulation & Co-Regulation CPD Training Overview
Neurodevelopmental & Polyvagal Foundations: Understanding how the developing prefrontal cortex and mirror neurons drive emotional arousal, using Polyvagal Theory to map Ventral, Sympathetic, and Dorsal nervous system states.
The 3-Step Co-Regulation Framework: Implementing real-time sequential workflows (Regulate, Relate, Reason), adjusted vocal pacing, somatic touch, and proactive transition routines to de-escalate distress.
Sensory Processing & Connection-First Policies: Unpacking all eight sensory systems. Including proprioception, interoception, and vestibular input, to replace compliance-driven rules with sensory-rich, connection-first practices.
Investment:
On-site: £750 full day or £450 half day.
Remote: £680 or £340 half day.

Why EYFS Emotional Regulation & Co-regulation Training is Essential
Self-regulation is a complex developmental milestone rather than a simple behavioural choice, and young children are biologically reliant on calm adults to help them navigate intense emotional states. Expecting toddlers or young children to self-regulate without structured support often leads to unnecessary power struggles, heightened anxiety, and persistent distress. This masterclass equips practitioners with a clear, neurobiologically informed understanding of how the nervous system reacts to stress and sensory input. By moving away from compliance-focused rewards and isolation tactics, educators learn to use their own calm presence, intentional vocal pacing, and targeted sensory strategies to co-regulate children safely, build lasting resilience, and create truly supportive environments.

EYFS Emotional Regulation & Co-regulation CPD Course Breakdown
This comprehensive course guides practitioners from foundational neurobiology to practical, floor-level application across four core learning phases. The opening modules explore the neurobiology of self-regulation, mirror neuron responses, and Polyvagal Theory, showing how young children scan their environments for safety or threat. Practitioners learn how their own internal stress levels directly influence a child's emotional state, building a firm foundation for understanding dysregulation as a physiological survival response rather than intentional misbehaviour.
Building on these insights, the curriculum delivers actionable co-regulation techniques, environmental design strategies, and an in-depth exploration of sensory processing. Staff master the three-step Regulate-Relate-Reason framework, learn to adapt vocal pacing and somatic proximity, and discover how to design smooth transition routines that prevent distress. Finally, the course examines the eight sensory systems in detail, including vestibular, proprioceptive, interoceptive, and tactile processing, enabling teams to audit existing behaviour management policies and replace punitive reflection corners with sensory-rich comfort spaces that prioritise genuine connection and nervous system safety.
